<h3>The opportunity </h3>
<p>Their staff serve a local population of nearly two million people, and they have more than 230 services, including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. They provide inpatient care for over 5,000 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon.</p>
<p>Lexica was appointed to undertake a review of the SLaM estate function, including operations and capital projects. Following this review, we were asked to provide an ongoing support role to implement the recommendations of the estate review, focusing on the management of capital projects, their governance and processes. <br /></p><h3>Our approach</h3>
<p>Our initial review identified that key processes were not in place and projects were not delivering consistently. We supplemented the project management resource, reorganised how the capital projects were managed, established clearer governance and accountability.</p><h3>Our impact </h3>
<p>We have strengthened the project management skill base and implemented new, more rigorous governance processes. <br /></p>
<p>Our intervention stabilised the performance of ongoing projects and halted cost and time slippage. We regained the confidence of the Board and clinicians through improved governance and communication and improved the relationship with the operational estates teams. </p>
