<h3>The opportunity </h3>
<p>Healthcare has been identified as a key area for development within China, as it looks to deliver its vision of a ‘Healthy China’. The Jiangbei area, located within the city of Nanjing, is the 13th new development area and with that focus, has huge potential for growth and investment. </p>
<p>It is envisaged that investment in health infrastructure will be required in the Jianbei area to support both the <em>Healthy China </em>vision and migration/urbanisation as a result of its development area status.<br /></p>

<h3><strong>Our approach </strong></h3>
<p>Lexica undertook a high-level Health Needs Assessment to inform the NIHC of the current and future requirements for healthcare capacity within the city of Nanjing. Our work confirmed baselines and validated future capacity needs based on work previously undertaken by Ernst &amp; Young (EY). The Health Needs Assessment focused on the following key components of health demand:</p><ul><li>Population growth</li><li>Population age</li><li>Disease prevalence</li><li>Market, culture and policy</li></ul>
<p>To ensure demand is appropriately translated into future capacity requirements, productivity measures including hospitalisation rates, length of stay and occupancy, have been taken into account. Additionally, the potential impact of hospital grading and type has been assessed against future capacity needs.</p><h3><strong>Our impact </strong></h3>
<p>Specific outcomes from our assessment included:</p><ul><li>The number of total hospital beds required in the Jiangbei Development Zone up to 2030</li><li>Identification of children and women’s services bed demand</li><li>Bed demand exploring three scenarios</li><li>Broad speciality/disease categories to inform hospital reconfiguration</li><li>A summary of hospitals by type to inform hospital configuration</li></ul>
